books for bhutan
enriching communities on both sides of the globe
ABOUT ME
Welcome to Books for Bhutan! My name is Linnea Wingerup, and I am a sixteen year-old sophmore at Masconomet Regional High School in Massachusetts. This project is near and dear to my heart, and it shows how important it is to me to not just share objects, but also knowledge.
Books for Bhutan was born when visiting the stunning country of Bhutan in 2011. I was just 11 years old when I visited, but it was clear to me how amazing and unique this country is. The people are happy and gracious, and are constantly grateful to everyone and everything they have in their lives. I found out through the wonderful tour guide that we had during the trip, that the local schools and libraries are always thankful for book donations, as the children of the schools need more materials to learn English. I knew instantly that I wanted to do something to help.
The Girl Scout Gold Award opportunity then came up in summer of 2015. The Girl Scout Gold Award is an amazing opportunity for girls in the Girl Scout community to share their desire to do good and enrich local communities as well as international. The requirements include 80+ hours of service, and a sustainable project. Books for Bhutan was then born.
